Hello!

Have you ever had a group or singer that got you into K-Pop?

If you're a global fan who likes Korean idols, you've probably heard words like 'ipdeok', 'choeae', and 'deokjil' a lot.

We've compiled essential terms often used in the K-Pop fandom!

Ipdeok (ipdeokhada)

It means the moment you become a fan of a certain entertainer or group. It's a combination of 'ipgu (entrance)' and 'deokhu (mania)'.

Originally used mainly in Japanese subculture, it is now widely used in various fields such as entertainers, idols, dramas, sports, and hobbies.

Choeae

It means 'the most loved and cherished being', and is a shortened form of 'the most favored'.

It is often used to refer to the favorite member in an idol fandom, or to refer to the most preferred subject in a specific hobby field.

Deokjil

It means fan activities that are enthusiastically immersed in a field or entertainer that they like.

It includes various activities such as consuming the content of the object you like, collecting related goods, engaging in fandom activities, and sharing information

It is also used like this.

  • I got into K-Pop by listening to BTS's 'Dynamite'.

  • My choeae is Lisa of Blackpink.

  • I'm into collecting EXO albums these days.
